NOTES: Cataloged 1/98, DZ. [inside cover of album] (in pencil) "Very early photographs. A collection of 71 early photographs about 1851. Those of the Great Exposition of 1851 in Hyde Park were apparently taken when the Exhibition was being arranged-? 1850. The family portraits may be of still earlier date. They may have been taken by Rob. Hunt, the Pioneer of photography in this Country, & W. Hunt, was possibly a relation... In 1844 R, Hunt pub. his 'Researches on Light...embracing all the known Photographic Processes & new Discoveries in the Art.' 1st edit. In 1854 a 2nd edit. appeared. He also wrote 'Photography, by the Daguerreotype & other Processes,' 1851. 2nd edit 185_[sic], 3rd edit. 1853. Also 'A Manual of Photography.'3rd edit 1853."
