"Research shows these to have been taken by William Henry Jackson on his first trip with Hayden in the summer of 1870, when the survey went into the Laramie Mountains in southeastern Wyoming. Hayden distributed private copies of Jackson's views to Congressmen and other influencial individuals in an attempt to raise money for further expeditions." [William S. Johnson, 8/97]
