  "Sept. 1957-at least 1964. The most famous and significant Nikon
  rangefinder camera, again showing innovation in camera design.
  Approximately 23,000 made. It offered a removable back which could
  be replace with a motor-drive back. Universal finder for six focal
  length lenses 28-135mm. The popular motor-drive back led the way for
  Nikon's dominance in motor-driven photography for the next two
  decades. Easily recognized by the wide window which extends over the
  lens. The 'Nikon' logo, no longer fiting above the lens, was placed
  off center below the shutter release." (McKeown, 1994).
