"The Scénographe was designed by Dr. Candèze around 1874. It
represented an attempt to give considerable compactness to a camera,
and employed a flexible cloth bellows, much on the principle of
Willat's bellows camera of 1851." (Lothrop, 1973).
At least 3 models exhist:
"1. Green silk 'soufflet' with gold embossed "CANDEZE" (home market)
and "E.DEYROLLES a PARIS" (French marker; Deyrolles being Candeze'
sales agent in France). The top plate is cut out to allow for the fol
folding of the viewfinder and the focusing screens are in cardboard.
2. Black silken 'soufflet', no cut out in the wooden top plate and
wooden framed focussing screen with matching wooden slides.
3. Same as 2 but the 'soufflet is of black leather." (van Hasbroeck).
