INSCRIPTION: recto-(in pencil on mount) "O.R. Rejlander. 1856"

NOTES: Catalogued 11/96, MAP. This photograph was published in "The Photographic Art News", December 3, 1886. Here it is documented that Rejlander photographed children in various poses, such as "a study from the nude posed, to allegorically personate painting as one of a pair of subjects; the other being photography, in which a sunflower and a camera were introduced". The pairing allegory of photography is conserved at the Edinburgh Photographic Society (see E.Y. Jones, "Father of Art Photography. O.G. Rejlander 1813-1875", 1973, pg.53).
