One of the earliest projectors for Standard Edison 35mm films;
Hand-cranked wheel operates film advance; Projecting light powered
by battery, electricity, or by calcium. Uses either reel (supply and
take-up spool) or rack (spool bank) feed for films. According to Amet
brochure "The Magniscope ... Packed in a shipping case weighs about 90
pounds; with Rack and Resistance Coil, 118 pounds.
The Magniscope is furnished with a regular Darlot lens, which makes a
picture at forty feet 5 feet by 6 feet 10 inches; the Wide Angle at
same distance, makes a picture about 6x9 feet.
The feed mechanism of The Magniscope is such that the film is entirely
free from friction or tension. The film, when once set, may be run
for an indefinite time, amd will not change its position. It is
entirely free from the waltz motion such as the Biograph, Vitascope,
Phantoscope, Etc. Consequently, people watching The Magniscope picture
pictures will always enjoy themselves, for they are not made seasick
by the clear, steady pictures this machine projects."
