First U.S.A. apparatus designed for projecting Edison films (35mm).
Uses beater intermittent consisting of a bar attached to a circular
cam. As the cam rotates, the bar comes into contact with the film,
moving it the the next frame. No shutter used in the mechanism.
Originally designed by C. Francis Jenkins in March 1895, then
negotiated by his ex-partner with Raff & Gammon, and renamed "Edison
Vitascope". Ex-partner Thomas Armat also claimed responsibility for
inventing Vitascope.
