"With their patent corruption of the straight photograph the
Cancellations investigate the issue of the original and the
reproduction. Because of the accuracy and verisi,ilitude of the
photographic image, it is frequently equated with the subject. By
alterning the print Barrow distinguishes it as a reproduction,
calling into question the distinction between the thing and an image
of it, between reality and illusion. Here Barrow reminds us that we
