"C.P. Stirn's patent "The Wonder" Panoranic Camera, covering up to
360°, for up to five exposures 3¼ x 18 in. in length, on
transparent roll film, Berlin, Germany, c. 1889, the box-form stained
birch wood body mounted on nickel-plate turn-table above black-painted
cast-iron tripod head, on a walnut stand (for display); with a
Periscopic 75mm f/12 lens. The two side panels remove to reveal brass
rollers through which the film is wound, the take-up spool is attached
to a cord which is strung through the center of the tripod head; this
cord, when pulled, causes the film to wind past the rollers, one of
the rollers turns a small wheel at the bottom of the camera which is
connected by a string to the turntable which causes the whole camera
to turn. A spring catch at the bottom of the turn-table can be set
for 90° (4½ in. of film), 180° (9 in. of film), 270° (13½ in. of
film)es, or 360° (18 in. of film). A punch h63e at the back of the
camera notches the film for later cutting. The speed of rotation is
governed by a friction screw on the top of the turntable."
