"35mm Leica IIIa copy. Made for the Signal Corps, and also for
civilians. Ektar f2/47mm lens. Cloth focal plane shutter, 1 to 1000.
Coupled rangefinder.
Civilian Model - Uses standard Leica style advance knob and shutter
release. No rear nameplate on body. Civilian lens mounts with
knurled focusing wheel toward top between slow speed dial and RF
window (11 o'clock position viewed from front). $600-900.
Signal Corps Model - Obvious identification is rear nameplate on body.
Military models were also designed to be operated more easily when
wearing gloves, with an enlarged cylindrical advance knob, removable
tall extension for release button, and with lens focusing wheel near
bottom of camera (7 o'clock position) away from the other controls."
