"This is a camera in the form of a leather-bound photograph album, for
single exposures 9x12 cm., on standard dry plates. Designed by Auguste
Cadot (French Patent 208, 911, October 17, 1890). Manufactured by
A. Schaeffner, Paris, France." Lothrop, 1973.
A high level of sophistication with simple mechanics and a low price
were the features of this camera. Eight exposures could be made on
glass plates, each 5x5cm. An unusual two-side plate holder, each side
of which contained four individual plates was fitted to the camera.
To change plates, the plate holder was removed and rotated 90 degrees
bringing a fresh plate into the focal plane. In this manner and by
using both sides of the holder eight separate exposures could be made
without a complicated plate changing mechanism.
