NOTES:
An album of 49 albumen photographs, approximately 12.5 x 16.5 cm. each
mounted on a plate block with title, date and name of the photographer
printed underneath. There is also a printed strip of paper which
identifies each view pasted in the corner of each page. These images
document the destruction of the monuments and public buildings of
Paris which occurred in the aftermath of the Franco-Prussian War.
After France's defeat, an insurrection by a group identified as the
"Commune of Paris" raged from March 18 until May 28, 1871. The images
include views of the Port d'Autiel and of the area known as Neuilly
as well as views from many perspectives of the destruction of the
Tuileries Palace and of the Hôtel de Ville (City Hall). Album is in
fairly good condition, covered in red leather and cloth with title
embossed in gold on the cover and on the spine. There is considerable
foxing on the first page of the album; the front cover is detached.
