NOTES: Catalogued 10/87, DZ. "Upon their arrival in Mexico, Modotti and Weston were taken with the landscape that surrounded them. While landscape views figured predominately in Weston's Mexican photographs, they appear less frequently in Modotti's. This image was taken as a fond rememberance by Modotti of a luminous landscape - a dramatic backdrop - against which the enduring profile of a village church can be seen. On the back of this photograph, she wrote; 'Taken from the patio of house where we spent the night.'" [Therese Mulligan, 1/97]
