INSCRIPTION: (typed on attached paper mat) "The Double Telescope to be used by the Hamburg Expedition during the Eclipse of the Sun on August 30th. Pictures 21 inches square will be taken of the darkened sky, and there is great excitement as to whether the supposed planet Vulcan will be detected during the eclipse" (in pencil) "1905"
